Note: Text to Speech by NWSPR. Inspired by and in direct reference to the works of Thomas Pynchon. Imagine a present. A gift unknown. A rainbow arching endlessly Tracing all points to the same conclusion. Imagine the missile. One hears it approaching. Imagine a line describing the missile's path beyond it's impact. Imagine the missile. (This portion is an excerpt from Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon) Imagine the missile. One hears approaching only after it explodes. The reversal. A piece of time neatly snipped out. A few feet of film run backwards. The blast of the rocket, fallen faster than sound—then growing out of it the roar of its own fall, catching up to what’s already death and burning . . . a ghost in the sky. . . .

A thousand years of sunlight pressed under a stone won't make you golden won't make you whole There's a boy who keeps time in a jar rides around in a train car says your truth won't go far says your truth won't go far I'm a 21st century man too much time and not enough plans I'm a 21st century man I'd like to try but it's out of my hands I'm a 21st century man I'm a 21st century man I'd like to help but I don't understand

about

A Thousand Years of Sunlight by NWSPR is a concept EP based on electronic minimalist synth pop of the 80s.

Production Notes: Fascinated by the production of the Human League's DARE album, I wanted to create a similar feel by restricting instrumentation and constructing multitimbral arrangements from monophonic synth lines. Using only a single monophonic synthesizer (Arturia Microbrute), vintage drum machine (Roland TR-505) and Mac laptop, the songs are constructed with individual passes of melodic lines at different interval to form a range of textures.

All songs were recorded simultaneously over a period of several months to create a cohesive session feel to the EP. The exception to this is the track 21st Century Man which was recorded a year prior to this EP and uses guitar and the Yamaha CS-5 synthesizer for bass, melodies and processing the guitar. I felt it fit in well with this collection of tracks and breaks things up a bit.
